Hey… AT&T… FUCK YOU! iPhone and Beejive

31 Aug

Paradigm Shift -n A radical change in beliefs or underlying theory.

Okay… so canceling AT&T’s unlimited text plan is hardly “radical”, but here is my reasoning for taking the plunge. Its 2010! Are we honestly still using the outdated technology of SMS and MMS messaging? And at $20 a month from AT&T on top of a $30 unlimited data plan?

All iPhone users (AT&T) are required to purchase an unlimited data plan. Instead of wasting $20 for an unlimited texting plan, which is almost completely unnecessary for me, I have decided to purchase Beejive and connect with Facebook Chat and Google Talk. These chat services using Beejive as a client are essentially the exact same thing as texting. Of course all the non iPhone and smartphone users in your life won’t be able to text or IM you anymore… but who cares about them!? They are living in the past anyhow.

One important thing to remember… if you follow suit, make sure to call AT&T and put a “Text Block” when canceling your text plan. That way you aren’t charged for individual texts. Those nasty little buggers can sure add up! Encourage all your iPhone and smartphone pals to do the same and send AT&T a loud and clear “Fuck You!”.

Don't Sleep! Classic Instrumentals

In 2006 I decided to put out a hip hop instrumental album. I made 14 beats which I thought would make an excellent instrumental mash up and had the project mixed, mastered, packaged and delivered. We are nearly halfway though 2010 and I have roughly 100 copies of the project still available. Additionally the album is available on iTunes and other digital distribution outlets. Numerous people have told me how much they love the album and its always astonishing if not embarrassing because the caliber of my production has improved 10 fold easily. I guess its true what they say, you’re your own worse critic.

With that being said, we have a limited number of copies left… so go ahead and grab one! The price is only $10 and includes free shipping worldwide.

Official Alkota Blog?

18 Jul

Welcome to the “Official Alkota Blog”. Whatever Official Means. I suppose I’m not quite household enough to have people ripping off my blog, beats, and music and claiming to be Alkota… not quite yet. A quick note about who I am and what I do. I am Alkota, a hip hop beat maker/producer from Anchorage Alaska. Ive been making beats for about 8+ years now and have worked with some very talented artists including Rasco, Bekay, Josh Boots, Soiled Seed, Big Lo, Deuce Eclipse, Access Immortal, and many more. Ive been contacted by major labels and artists but have yet to land a major placement. Lets hope this changes.

Ive licensed my music to hundreds of TV shows and can be heard on networks ranging from MTV to NBC. My beats have been featured in Skateboarding, Snowboarding, and Sports Video, Television, and Web Media. Ive managed to penetrate international markets with my music. Its crazy. My friends were in a bar in China a few years back when they heard a song I had done with Denver’s Black Pegasus. Random, but cool.

I love to chop up samples from vinyl and lace them with hard hitting drums. I rarely produce synth heavy pop sounding beats that mainstream and copycat producers seem to be obsessed with. In fact, my style is a bit unique. I rarely ever make music with a specific idea or style in mind. Rather, I attempt to make a beat and something magical comes out. Ive used everything from a Korg Triton to the MPC 2000XL but settled on Propellerheads Reason 4 back in 2004. I realized that its not “what you use” but “how you use it”… with that said, my tools are a Apple Powerbook, Turntable, Drum Pads, Midi Controller, Reason 4, and lots of Vinyl and Sounds.
